GERALD C. SHINSKY
FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Gerald C. Shinsky, 86, passed away Thursday morning, June 3, 2021 at his Fort Fairfield home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 1, 1935 in Detroit, MI, the son of Paul V. and Praxeda (Glowacka) Shinsky.

Gerald was a graduate of the Detroit, MI school system and went on to serve his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. He later worked as an electrician in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia, and owned and operated S & M Electrical Contractors in Ruckersville, VA. Gerald truly fell in love with the State of Maine and cherished the time spent on his farm. He especially loved horses and was proud to have rescued four Clydesdales from a meat-processing factory in Canada, and also became an instant cat lover after rescuing his dear “Princess”.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by one daughter, Kathy Malakowski; two brothers, Paul and Tom; two sisters, Barbara and Louise; one great grandson, Robert Edwin Shinsky. He is survived by his companion, Florence Thompson of Fort Fairfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry E. and Elaine Shinsky of Ruckersville, VA; three grandchildren, Jerry Lee Shinsky, Joseph Theodore Shinsky, and April Eileen Shinsky, all of Ruckersville, VA; several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Gerald wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Shinsky to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
