Fort Fairfield – Mildred Marie Tranbarger, 76, wife of the late Russell D. Tranbarger, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters on Friday morning, May 28, 2021, at a Van Buren nursing facility, following an extended illness. She was born January 12, 1945 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of Clarence R. and Lauretta (Saucier) Gagnon.

Millie attended Fort Fairfield schools and lived there most of her life, and was an active communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church. As a young woman, Millie worked as a waitress at the Fort Fairfield Plymouth Hotel and was married to Russell D. Tranbarger on December 5, 1964, and became an Air Force wife, having lived all over the United States. She loved playing bingo and dancing. Millie also enjoyed playing card games, including Scat, 45 and Uno, and loved everyone she met. She truly possessed a big heart, the gift of love and an infectious smile and laugh.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tranbarger was predeceased by her husband of thirty-eight years, Russell David Tranbarger on April 27, 2003; one sister, Rose Marie Ovaldson; five brothers-in-law, Robert Cyr, John Polom, John Miles, Maurice Ovaldson, and Carroll Tranbarger; and a sister-in-law, Gwen Tranbarger.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Keith Bernier of Fort Fairfield, Vickie and Ralph Conroy of Woodland; six grandchildren, Lacey (Bernier) Guiou and her husband Paul, Austin Bernier, Kendra Conroy, Colby Conroy and his wife Chelsea, Dylan Conroy and Makenzie Conroy; two sisters, Teresa Cyr and Shirley Polom, both of Fort Fairfield; one brother Richard Gagnon and his wife Sylvia of Fort Fairfield ; three sisters-in-law, Marty (Tranbarger) Miles and Judy (Tranbarger) Bible of Greeneville, TN, Jewel (Tranbarger) Burger of Greenville, SC; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Millie’s family would like to thank the staff at Borderview Nursing and Rehab for the kind and compassionate care she received during the years she spent there.

Friends may call Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a service to celebrate Millie’s life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Millie to the Borderview Nursing and Rehab Center, 208 State Street, Van Buren, Maine 04785. Envelopes will be available at the service.
