Fort Fairfield – Jean M. Deschesne, 89, passed away Monday evening, November 15, 2021 at a Houlton nursing facility, following a period of declining health. She was born March 3, 1932 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of William J. and Nellie L. (White) Deschesne.

She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1949. Jean attended Elm’s College, Chicopee, MA, Fortham University, New York City, Albertus Magus, New Haven, CT, University of Maine, Presque Isle, and the Northern Maine Technical College, Presque Isle. Jean worked in the banking industry for many years and retired from People’s Heritage Bank in 1989. She was a dedicated communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, where she served on the Parish Council, holding every office including president, sang with the choir, served as lector, and a eucharistic minister, and religious education teacher. Jean was very instrumental in the one-hundredth anniversary of the St. Denis Parish and served as chairman for that event. Jean was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427, Fort Fairfield, where she held every office including Regent, and served as State Regent of the Maine Circle of the Daughters of Isabella from 1977 to 1979. She was also a member of the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association and the National Association of Bank Women.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by six brothers, William, Harry, Michael, David, Robert and Phillip Deschesne; four sisters, Anita Gamblin, Mary Deschesne, Joyce Adams and Nellie Laughlin.

She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Chasse of Mars Hill, Valarie Deschesne of Presque Isle; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield with Fr. David Raymond officiating. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Jean to the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association, P.O. Box 201, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742.
