Limestone – Gary L. O’Neal, 75, passed away Monday morning, September 19, 2022, at the Aroostook House of Comfort, Presque Isle, following a period of declining health. He was born September 9, 1947 in Caribou, the son of Floyd B. and Marie M. (McLaughlin) O’Neal.

Gary attended the Caswell school and was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1965. Gary attended Ricker College in Caribou where he received a B.A. degree in Business Management and a B.S. degree in Liberal Arts with a Psychology Major. Gary served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Supply Specialist with the Second Infantry Division and was stationed in Korea. He was a lifelong communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone, and was a member of both, the St. Augustine, FL and Caribou VFW’s. Gary owned and operated the Limestone IGA and the Limestone Laundromat for a number of years. He served as State Representative from 1995 to 2000, and also served as town manager in Limestone from 2000 to 2005. Gary also worked as a salesman for several area companies over the years, including Aroostook Beverage, Time Warner Cable, and Keebler Foods. He retired from DFAS as an accounting technician.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Valerie (Cantafio) O’Neal of Limestone; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Grace O’Neal of Limestone; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina and David Leighton of Auburn; three grandchildren, Nicholas O’Neal of Limestone, Sam Leighton, and Seth Leighton, both of Auburn; two brothers, Terry O’Neal and his wife Victoria of Manchester, Brent O’Neal and his companion, Denise Patterson of Levant; one sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Stephen Brooker of Limestone; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday September 23, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Cote officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou.
