Caswell – Ralph E. Leighton II, 65, husband of Dianne G. (Everett) Leighton, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 28, 2023 at a Lewiston healthcare facility, following an extended illness. He was born November 28, 1957 in North Conway, NH, the son of Ralph E. and Ruby M. (Saunders) Leighton.

Ralph was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1977 and went on to serve his country with the United States Air Force from 1978 to 1988 as a security policeman, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, stationed at Anderson AFB, Guam, and Loring AFB. He was married to Dianne G. Everett on June 17, 1978, and had been employed as a bus driver and custodian at the Limestone and Caswell schools for several years, and later worked at Sitel as a telemarketer. Ralph was a lifelong outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, who’s C.B. handle was “Trapper”. He was a registered Maine Guide, past Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop No. 193, Limestone, and was a Certified Hunter’s Safety Instructor. A high point of his life was a successful moose hunt in 2002. Ralph possessed a big heart and always had a humorous story to tell. He truly was “One of the Good Guys”. He was a member of the Limestone United Methodist Church, the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club, and the Borderline ATV Club, Caswell.

Ralph was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his wife of over forty-four years, Dianne G. Leighton; one son, Chad Leighton, both of Caswell; one sister and special brother-in-law and friend, Rea and Andy Caldwell of Limestone; a special nephew and niece, Jesse Caldwell of Houlton and Leah Caldwell of Limestone; two special great nieces, Emily LaPointe and Charlotte Tibbert, both of Limestone; many wonderful friends including, Kurt Derrah of Limestone; many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws, including a special uncle Donald Saunders and his wife Mary of Limestone.

Friends called Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the Limestone United Methodist Church reception area. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted Monday, May 22, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou.
