FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield, Wilmer H. York, 81, husband of Linda J. (Bird) York, passed away Thursday morning, March 2, 2023 at his Fort Fairfield home following a period of declining health. He was born January 10, 1942 in Castle Hill, the son of Acil and Essie (Sturgeon) York.

Wilmer attended Presque Isle schools and had been self employed in the recycling, logging, and carpentry industries much of his life and also assisted Curtis Seeley Farms and Bunny Bird Farms on a seasonal basis. Wilmer Was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing and especially family gatherings.

In addition to his parents, Wilmer was predeceased by one daughter, Sherry York; one grandson, Wesley York, one great granddaughter, Dayna Dixon, five brothers, Roger, Floyd, Dana, Warren and Acil "Manny" York; two sisters, Irene LaPointe, and Leona Smith; one daughter in law, Linda York. He is survived by his wife Linda J. York of Fort Fairfield; three sons, Mark N. York, Dana D. York and his wife Amanda, Blake York, all of Fort Fairfield, two daughters, Kathy M. York and Cheryl A. York, both of Presque Isle, one sister, Betty Steeves of New Brunswick, four brothers and sisters in laws, David and Linda York of Presque Isle, Vaughn York of Mapleton, Bunkie and Sue York of Westfield, Rodney and Patty York of Presque Isle, fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Christopher Fuller of Fort Fairfield.

Friends may visit with the family Sunday March 12, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the V.F.W. Paul-Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle St. Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. York to Hospice of Aroostook, 18 Green Hill Drive, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
