Presque Isle & Fort Fairfield – Lorraine M. DeWitt, 83, wife of the late Wayne C. DeWitt, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 16, 2023 at her Presque Isle home, following a brief illness. She was born April 9, 1939 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Royce M. and Fannie J. (Henderson) Chapman.

She attended Fort Fairfield schools and was married to Wayne C. DeWitt on June 22, 1956. Lorraine had been employed as a C.N.A. at the Caribou Nursing Home and later worked as a phlebotomist at TAMC A.R. Gould Hospital, Presque Isle, retiring in 2002 after twenty-eight years of service. Lorraine attended the Fort Fairfield, Easton and Presque Isle Wesleyan Churches, with whom she completed two missionary trips to Jamaica. She was active with Weight Watchers, and activities at Northland Park Apartments, especially with bingo, potluck dinners and socials. Lorraine was a talented crafter, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, creating jewelry and baby outfits for her family and clients of the Presque Isle Pregnancy Care Center.

In addition to her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Wayne on July 24, 2012; two sons, Randy DeWitt and Ricky DeWitt; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Blevins) DeWitt; one brother, Truman Chapman; two sisters, Joann Adolphsen and Dorothy Chapman.

She is survived by three sons, Rocky DeWitt and his wife Vickie of Fort Fairfield, Robby DeWitt and his wife Cindy of Bryan, TX, Ronny DeWitt of Limestone; one daughter, Ruth DeWitt of Hudson; one brother, Ellery Chapman of Torrance, CA; two sisters, Rose Marie Cox of Kentucky, Patricia L. LeMaster of Cypress, CA; eleven grandchildren, Toni Lloyd of Presque Isle, Mandy DeWitt of Washburn, Meagan DeWitt of Fort Fairfield, Lindsae Kish of Bangor, Missy DeWitt of Limestone, Miranda DeWitt of Caribou, Katrina McIntyre of Hudson, Travis DeWitt of Texas, Melisa DeWitt of Caribou, Michael Kish of Milford, Adam DeWitt of Texas; ten great grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Jacob, Makayla, Blake, Jerimiah, Owen, Finn, Carter and Asher. She also leaves behind a special friend, Muriel Durost of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald Doughty officiating. Interment will take place later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will take place after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, 160 Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
