Fort Fairfield – Paul R. Hartley, 71, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at his Fort Fairfield home, following an extended illness. He was born February 29, 1952 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Harold W. and Betty (Nichols) Hartley.

Paul was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1970 and received a Criminal Justice Degree from the University of Maine, Orono. Paul worked for several years as a police officer with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, and the Orono and Presque Isle Police Departments. He enjoyed a long career with the Prudential Insurance Company from 1979 until his retirement in 1991. Paul was a member of the former Eastern Frontier Masonic Lodge No. 112 AF & AM and a current member of the Trinity Masonic Lodge No. 130 AF & AM, Presque Isle and a lifelong New York Yankees fan.

He was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by two daughters, Angela St. Pierre, Karen Hayes and her fiancé Scott Poitras, all of Fort Fairfield; two sisters, Susan Hartley of Fort Fairfield, Sherry Hudson of Sanford; four grandchildren, Hunter St. Pierre of Burlington, VT, Delaney St. Pierre, Alexis Hayes and Cole Hayes, all of Fort Fairfield; one great grandson, Myles Hayes of Fort Fairfield. Paul also leaves behind a lifelong friend and member of the “Filthy-Five” Brett Armstrong of Bangor.

A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by the officers of Trinity Masonic Lodge No. 130, Thursday October 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery, Houlton Road, Fort Fairfield, followed by a graveside committal service with Christine Poitras officiating. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Paul to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Envelopes will be available at service.
