Fort Fairfield – Andreas L. Schneider, 83, husband of Mary F. (Gallagher) Schneider, passed away Monday afternoon May 12, 2014 at his Fort Fairfield home, following a brief illness.

He was born February 5, 1931 in Vienna, Austria, the son of Andreas and Anna (Lehninger) Schneider. Andreas was educated in Vienna, Austria, graduated from the University of Vienna and went on to teach and lecture in both England and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He was married to Mary F. Gallagher on May 28, 1970.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Schneider was predeceased by one son Christopher. He is survived by his wife of nearly forty-four years, Mary of Fort Fairfield. He leaves behind four sons, Johannes Schneider of Spain; P. Nikolaus Schneider of Tucson, AZ; Stephan Schneider and his wife Shannon McCauley of Toronto, Ontario; Matthias Schneider of Vienna, Austria; one daughter; Anna Kempner of England; one sister; Elisabeth Steiner of Vienna, Austria. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Suzanna and Luke Kempner, both of England; Silas and Ezra Schneider, both of Tucson, AZ; one niece; Marianne Ambrose of Vienna, Austria. He also leaves behind his former wife Joan Schneider of England.

Friends may call Saturday May 17, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with Father Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant.
