Pabineau First Nation, NB – Benjamin Peter Paul Sr., husband of late wife Janet Althea (Churchill) Paul, peacefully passed away at the age of 88 in Bathurst, New Brunswick on Thursday evening, December 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Benjamin was born April 9, 1935, in Bathurst, New Brunswick, the son of the late John Peter-Paul and Christiane (Prisk) Peter-Paul.

Benjamin was married to Janet Althea (Churchill) Paul, on April 12, 1957, and celebrated their 65th Anniversary together in 2022 before Janet’s passing in May 2022. Benjamin was a member of the Bathurst United Pentecostal Church. In addition to his parents, Benjamin was predeceased by his three brothers, Norman, John, and Gilbert Peter-Paul, five sisters, Mary (McBain), Rita (Sumski), Helen (Fraser), Theresa (Halka), Dorothy (Lordon), and one son, Stephen Robert Peter-Paul.

He is survived by his sons, Benjamin Peter-Paul Jr., David J. Peter-Paul and his wife Rose, Jonathan A. Peter-Paul and his wife Serena, all of Pabineau First Nation, Thomas C. Peter-Paul and his wife Cindy, of South Tetagouche, NB; two daughters, Madelyn G. Hennessey and her husband Russell Hennessey of Fredericton, NB, Robin L. Kelly of Bathurst, NB; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Benjamin spoke fondly of his youth, his time spent working with his father, John, and older brother, Norman, cutting and hauling pulp and survey pickets in Pabineau, working as a boatman on the Nepisiguit river drive, serving as a Canadian soldier in the Korean War, working in the potato farm industry in the State of Maine, working as a factory worker and as a tree nurseryman in the State of New Jersey, serving as an elected Councilor (6 years) and Chief of the Pabineau First Nation (18 years), and especially of the 65 wonderful years spent with his beautiful wife, Janet.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, December 26, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (EST) at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, ME, and Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (EST) at the United Pentecostal Church, 33 Currier Road, Fort Fairfield, ME, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. (EST) with host pastor, Rev. Ronald Doughty, scripture readings by grandson, Rev. Michael Hennessey, and eulogy and funeral service message by grandson, Adam Peter-Paul. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will take place immediately after the service at the Fort Fairfield United Pentecostal Church reception area.
