LIMESTONE

Limestone – Jean E. Bernier, 82, passed away Sunday evening, February 18, 2024 at a Caribou healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born June 26, 1941 in Limestone, the daughter of Albert G. and Dorothy M. (Langley) Poitras.

Jean was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1959, and furthered her education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, earning an Associates Degree in Accounting, and a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Business. She had been self-employed as an accountant with Northern Enterprises, Inc., Limestone for many years. Jean served as a trustee at the Robert Frost Memorial Library in Limestone, beginning in 1972, was a former member of the Limestone Women’s Civic Club, and also a member of the Limestone-Caswell Historical Society. Jean also generously volunteered her time up until the time of her passing at the “People Helping People” Food Pantry in Van Buren, and held an annual yard sale with proceeds helping the Central Aroostook Humane Society and the Halfway Home Pet Rescue.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, James J. Bernier on September 15, 1981 with whom she shared twenty-two years of marriage; her longtime companion, George Pease; one brother, Stephen Poitras; one sister, Linda Langley. She is survived by one daughter, Heidi Shorette of Presque Isle; two sons, Stephen Bernier of Edinburg, Kevin Bernier and his wife Sue of Verona Island; one brother, Paul Poitras and his wife Patsy of Limestone; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Stephen (Christine) Poitras of Fort Fairfield; three grandchildren, Samantha Casella and her husband Frank of Bangor, Ian Bernier and Ansley Bernier, both of Verona Island; one great grandchild, Carmen Casella of Bangor; several nieces and nephews.

Services will take place at a later date and time to be announced by the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Interment will take place at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone.
