FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Elizabeth A. “Betty” Craig, 80, wife of the late Charles R. Craig, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 29, 2024 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following an extended illness. She was born July 13, 1943 in Aberdeen, Scotland, U.K., the daughter of James and Helen (McLeod) DeWitt.

Betty attended Perth-Andover, New Brunswick schools and was married to Charles R. Craig on August 19, 1961. She had been employed at McCain Foods, Easton for many years, and by MMG Insurance, Presque Isle for a number of years. Betty was an active member of the Fort Fairfield Community Wesleyan Church and enjoyed crocheting and playing cards with friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Charles on November 10, 2023; one brother, James DeWitt; one sister, Mary Frye. She is survived by two sons, Michael C. Craig of Fort Fairfield, Douglas A. Craig of Limestone; one daughter, Corinna “Cory” Sawyer of Fort Fairfield; one brother, John DeWitt of Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Shelby York of Presque Isle, Dustin Craig of Fort Fairfield, Logan Craig of Augusta, Mallory Sawyer of Fort Fairfield; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Pamela Craig of Fort Fairfield.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no services. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, later in the spring. Those who wish may contribute to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
