FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Shirley M. Polom, 82, wife of the late John A. Polom, passed away Tuesday morning, March 19, 2024 at the Aroostook House of Comfort, Presque Isle following an extended illness. She was born August 1, 1941 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of Clarence and Laurette (Saucier) Gagnon.

Shirley was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, and attended Fort Fairfield schools. In 1965, Shirley moved to Palmer, MA, where she became employed as Head Cook at Monson High School. She later became employed as Housekeeping Supervisor at Palmer Wing Memorial Hospital, and later worked at Federal Paper, Palmer, MA as a machine operator until her retirement in 2001, at which time she moved back to Fort Fairfield to assist her mother, Laurette. Shirley was a member of the Fields Lane Sunshine Club and the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427, Fort Fairfield.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband John; two grandchildren, Adam and Amanda Ansolini; three sisters, Teresa Cyr, Mildred Tranbarger, Rose Ovaldson. She is survived by one son, Kevin D. Ridley of Lake Stevens, WA; one daughter, Karen Ansolini of Fort Fairfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sylvia Gagnon of Fort Fairfield; two grandchildren, Mark Ansolini of New Hampshire, John Ansolini of Kansas; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a service to Celebrate Shirley’s Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will take place following the service at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Council No. 1753, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Interment will take place later in the spring at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
